Background - Long Term Resident Visa (LTR)
LTR visas are offered to four classes of foreigners including:
- Wealthy Global Citizens
- Wealthy Pensioners
- Work-From-Thailand Professionals
- Highly Skilled Professionals
The benefits of the LTR visa are as follows:
- 17% personal income tax.
- 10 year term visa.
- Permission to work in Thailand without a work permit.
- Exemption from 4 Thai employee requirement to obtain a work permit.
- 90 day address reporting requirement increased to 1 year.
- Fast track service at international airports in Thailand.
The Wealthy Global Citizen category has the following requirements:
- US $1,000,000 in assets;
- Personal income of US $80,000 per year for the past 2 years;
- Investment of at least US $500,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment or Thai property; and
- Health insurance with US $50,000 in coverage or US $100,000 deposit.
The Wealthy Pensioner category has the following requirements:
- Personal income of US $80,000 per year at the time of the LTR visa application or personal income of US $40,000 per year at the time of the LTR visa application and investment of US $250,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment or Thai property; and
- Health insurance with US $50,000 in coverage or US $100,000 deposit.
The Work-From-Thailand Professional category has the following requirements:
- Personal income of US $80,000 per year for the past 2 years; or
- Personal income of US $40,000 per year for the past 2 years plus a master's degree or higher, own intellectual property or receive Series A funding;
- Employer by a public company on a stock exchange or private company in operation for at least 3 years with revenue of US $150,000,000 in the last three years;
- 5 years of work experience in relevant field of employment during the past 10 years; and
- Health insurance with US $50,000 in coverage or US $100,000 deposit.
The Highly Skilled Professional category has the following requirements:
- Personal income of US $80,000 per year for the past 2 years; or
- Personal income of US $40,000 per year for the past 2 years plus a master's degree or higher in a science and technology field or special expertise relevant to the job assignment in Thailand;
- Business in any targeted industries of the BOI; or
- Working for a higher education institution, research institution, specialized training institution or Thai government agency;
- 5 years of work experience in a targeted industry except for applicants with a PhD or above in their relevant field of the targeted industry or working for a Thai government agency;
- Health insurance with US $50,000 in coverage or US $100,000 deposit.
